Former councillor says that NB should get anti-SLAPP legislation

The CBC reports here that John Ferguson, a former councillor of Saint John believes that New Brunswick should implement anti-SLAPP legislation. SLAPPs are lawsuits that are intended to intimidate the individual or organization being sued into silence. The high costs of litigation deter people from challenging the lawsuit against them. Ferguson was sued by Saint John’s pension board for defamation. He believes that this lawsuit was meant to silence his criticism of the pension problem in Saint John.
