Khadr to Serve 8-Year Sentence

Khadr was handed a 40-year prison sentence by the Guantanamo military jury on Sunday. However, given a previous plea bargain, Khadr’s sentence is capped at eight years. After serving another year in U.S. custody, Khadr will be able to apply to be transferred to Canada to serve the remainder of his sentence, where he will be eligible to apply for release under parole guidelines. One of the conditions of his plea deal is that Khadr will be unable to appeal the conviction.
