Canadians were warned about Afghan security partners

The Toronto Star reports that Canada was well aware of security partner Watan Risk Management’s close ties to the Karzai regime and the “culture of fear” for which it is famous.  Multiple parties warned Canada that Watan has been “colluding with insurgents to maximize profits from lucrative contracts to protect NATO supply convoys in Afghanistan.”  In February, Watan members engaged in an armed stand-off against security forces of Canadian engineering firm SNC-Lavelin within a security complex.
