Six out of 10 Canadians say Afghan detainees tortured: poll

A new poll reported in the National Post says the majority of Canadians believe allegations that Afghan detainees in the custody of the Canadian military were transferred to torture – and that senior government officials were in the know.

The results come just as the Military Police Complaints Commission heard last week that senior federal bureaucrats withheld records in response to such allegations, the Globe and Mail reported.

House Speaker Peter Milliken’s deadline for the Conservative government to show secret documents to opposition MPs was originally set for tomorrow, but may be extended, this Globe and Mail article suggests.
